To make our cities and their shared spaces greener, sustainable, and liveable, Sembcorp India extended its support to the artfully curated Museo Camera in reducing its carbon footprint and benefiting from energy cost savings by using solar power. In line with its strategy to enable a low-carbon future, Sembcorp India undertook an initiative to drive the adoption of renewables by electrifying the Museo Camera, a popular landmark in Gurugram which endeavours to celebrate the story and evolution of photography, with energy efficient Solar Rooftop systems. A unique public-private partnership between the India Photo Archive Foundation and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, Museo Camera is the largest not-for-profit crowd-funded Centre for Photographic Arts in Southeast Asia. Spread over 18000 square feet of space dedicated to the art and history of photography, the museum displays hundreds of vintage cameras and photographic ephemera going back as far as the 1850s. Moreover, the museum has spacious art galleries, workshop and lecture halls, and a fully functional darkroom evoking the art's early days, all of which require a considerable amount of electricity to power the facility's centralised air conditioning, lighting, and other operational requirements. The Engineering Technical Service team of Sembcorp India's renewable energy arm studied the requirements of the museum and installed a 60 KWp rooftop solar solution. Helping Museo Camera to operate sustainably, the installation is expected to translate into annual energy cost savings of approximately 0.66M INR, considering INR 8 per KWH. Moreover, the rooftop solar solution will help in reducing approximately 1697 tons of CO2 emissions over its lifetime, in comparison to electricity generated from a conventional power plant. This is equivalent to the planting of 2716 teak trees over the lifetime of the plant.
